Gemini in Google Classroom is now available in all languages
The classroom just got a lot more conversational, in every language. This week, Google announced a massive expansion for Gemini in Google Classroom, bringing its AI-powered features to every single language supported by the platform.
Whether you’re an educator in Tokyo, a professor in Paris, or a student in São Paulo, Gemini is now ready to assist in your native tongue. This isn't just a translation update; it's a global toolkit for the future of education.
For Educators: Your Global Teaching Assistant
Planning lessons across different cultures and languages has always been a time-consuming challenge. Now, educators can use the Gemini tab in Classroom to:
- Lesson Blueprints: Quickly outline a lesson plan tailored to specific learning objectives.
- Instant Assessment: Generate quizzes and informational texts to keep students engaged.
- Clarify Confusion: Ask Gemini to tackle common student misconceptions or create Depth of Knowledge (DOK) questions.
- Creative Brainstorming: Use starter prompts to gamify activities or brainstorm real-world examples that resonate with local students.
For Higher Education: Personalized Study Partner
Students at the university level now have a personalized academic coach available in their preferred language:
- Guided Learning: Get step-by-step explanations on complex topics.
- Custom Practice: Instantly turn class materials into flashcards or study guides.
- Exam Readiness: Take AI-generated quizzes to identify knowledge gaps before the big test.
Admin & Security: Keeping the Classroom Safe
Google has prioritized safety and institutional control in this rollout:
- Age-Gated Access: By default, Gemini is only available to users designated as 18 years or older in an institution's age-based access settings.
- Admin Controls: IT administrators can manage exactly who has access to the Gemini tab via the Admin Console. It is ON by default but can be toggled at the domain or group level.
- Human-in-the-Loop: Google emphasizes that AI-generated content should always be reviewed by educators to ensure it fits the specific local context and school policies.
Availability & Rollout
- Rollout: An extended rollout began on April 13, 2026, meaning it may take up to 15 days to reach all global domains.
- Eligible Editions: Available to Education Fundamentals, Standard, and Plus customers.
- Language Reach: Now covers all languages where both Google Classroom and the Gemini app are currently available.
The best classroom is one where every voice is understood. By bringing Gemini to every corner of the globe in every supported language, Google is making sure that the future of education isn't limited by where you live or what language you speak. Are you ready to see what your classroom can do with a global AI at its side?
