Gemini Notebook Could Turn Expert Books Into Interactive AI Knowledge

Google is now making that process easier with Expert Intelligence, a new initiative that brings trusted content from authors, publications, and domain experts directly into Gemini Notebook.

The first step focuses on books available through Google Play Books.

Turning Books Into Interactive Sources

With Expert Intelligence, users can add eligible ebooks they have purchased from Google Play Books directly to a Gemini Notebook.

Instead of simply reading the book, users can ask Gemini Notebook questions about its content and receive answers grounded in the book itself.

The experience can also turn the source into different formats. Users can generate Infographics, Audio Overviews, Quizzes, and other Notebook features based on the book.

That makes a book more than a source to read. It becomes something users can actively explore with AI.

Combining Expert Knowledge With Your Own Information

One of the more interesting parts of the update is the ability to combine a book with other sources inside the same notebook.

For example, a manager could use ideas from Radical Candor alongside their own notes to think through difficult employee conversations.

A reader could combine personal journal entries with a health-related book to better understand how the author's ideas relate to their own information.

A parent could use a book about food and nutrition alongside a photo of ingredients in their refrigerator to explore possible meal ideas.

In each case, Gemini Notebook is connecting expert knowledge with information that is specific to the user.

More Than 100,000 Books at Launch

Expert Intelligence is launching with more than 100,000 eligible books from publishers including Bloomsbury, De Gruyter Brill, Johns Hopkins University Press, Macmillan Publishers, and Penguin Random House.

Google has also worked with bestselling authors to create Featured Notebooks that combine their books with additional sources and AI-generated artifacts for deeper exploration.

Importantly, Google has built controls around access to the books. Users must own an eligible title through Google Play Books to interact with it in Gemini Notebook. If a notebook is shared, collaborators will need their own copy of the book to access its content.

This gives publishers and authors more control while allowing readers to engage with their work in new ways.

From AI Answers to Trusted Expertise

The bigger idea behind Expert Intelligence is not simply adding books to an AI notebook.

It is about making trusted expertise easier to use.

AI can generate an answer in seconds, but the information behind that answer still matters.
