Google AI Mode Is Turning Travel Search Into a Smarter Trip Planner
Planning a trip usually means jumping between flight searches, hotel websites, loyalty programs, and booking pages. Google is now bringing more of those steps together with new travel capabilities in AI Mode in Search, making it easier to research a trip and take action without constantly starting a new search.
With the latest update, AI Mode can now help travelers monitor airfare changes, understand the cost of flights and hotels in points or miles, and complete hotel reservations directly through the AI-powered Search experience. Google says these additions are designed to make the journey from finding an option to making a booking much more seamless.
Keep an Eye on Flight Prices
Finding a suitable flight is only part of the challenge. Prices can change quickly, so travelers often have to keep checking the same route to decide whether to book now or wait.
AI Mode can now handle that waiting for you. After describing the trip you have in mind, you can ask AI Mode to monitor the flight prices, and Google will send an email when the price changes for your selected route and dates. The feature uses information from more than 300 airline and travel partners and is rolling out across more than 180 countries and territories, excluding EEA locations.
This makes AI Mode more useful beyond the initial search. Instead of remembering to revisit a flight page every few days, travelers can let Google keep watch while they focus on the rest of their plans.
See What Your Points Can Get You
For frequent travelers, the price of a trip is not always measured in money. Airline miles and hotel points can be just as important when deciding where and how to travel.
Google is bringing this information into AI Mode as well. Travelers can ask for flights or hotels using a particular rewards program, and AI Mode can show the available redemption rates using current information provided by participating partners.
The feature launches with support for programs and companies including American Airlines, Alaska Airlines/Hawaiian Airlines, Hilton, Choice Hotels International, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Google says additional partners such as Hyatt, Accor, LATAM Airlines, Lufthansa Group, and Flying Blue are planned for the coming weeks.
For someone who has been saving points for a particular trip, this could make the search process much easier. Instead of checking several loyalty programs separately, they can start the conversation in AI Mode and see which options fit their rewards balance.
Hotel Booking Comes Into AI Mode
Google is also taking a bigger step by allowing hotel bookings to happen within AI Mode. Travelers can describe what they are looking for and receive a visual selection of hotels with information such as guest reviews and important details to help compare their options.
Once a hotel is selected, users can choose “Continue on Google” when the option is available and move through the room selection and booking process without leaving the AI Mode experience. Google Pay can be used to complete the payment, while the hotel or booking platform remains responsible for the reservation and customer service.
The hotel booking feature is initially rolling out in the U.S. in English, with partners including Booking.com, Expedia, Hilton, Hotels.com, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Priceline, Trip.com, Choice Hotels International, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.
Search Is Becoming More Action-Oriented
These updates show a noticeable change in what Google expects AI Mode to do. Search has traditionally helped people find information and then send them to another website to take the next step. AI Mode is increasingly becoming a place where users can research options, make decisions, and begin completing tasks from the same conversation.
Travel is a particularly good example because planning a trip involves many connected decisions. A traveler might first compare destinations, then look at flights, check rewards, watch prices, choose accommodation, and finally make reservations. Bringing more of those steps into one AI-powered experience can reduce some of the back-and-forth that normally comes with planning.
Google has already been using AI to create personalized travel itineraries by combining information from services such as Maps, Flights, and Hotels. These new additions push that experience further by connecting trip planning with price monitoring and booking.
What This Could Mean for Travelers
The bigger idea behind these changes is convenience. Travelers do not necessarily want another tool that simply tells them which flight or hotel to choose; they want help moving from an idea to an actual trip.
AI Mode is beginning to fill that role by bringing together information, recommendations, price tracking, rewards data, and booking actions. As Google adds more travel partners and expands these capabilities, Search could become less about finding a page and more about helping users complete the entire journey.
For travelers, that could mean fewer tabs, fewer repeated searches, and more of the planning process handled through a single conversation with Google AI.
